GAJUMARU", a new center for the dissemination of Okinawa's local resources and creativity in Japan and abroad, will have its grand opening on August 6, 2025 (Wednesday) at the Shuri Castle Reconstruction Support Plaza on the 2nd floor of the International Passenger Terminal at Naha Airport!
This project is a creative pop-up event from Okinawa, organized by Culture Palette Okinawa (Tomigushiro City; co-chairs: Koichi Kanae and Hiroki Kurosu), with more than 300 businesses from the prefecture scheduled to participate annually.
Background of Opening
Okinawa has many attractive local products, such as excellent crafts, foods, and sundries, but there is still a lack of places for these products to reach tourists. GAJUMARU will solve this problem and be born at the airport, the center of the tourist flow, as a new place to promote Okinawa's products both domestically and internationally.
Three Attractions of GAJUMARU
1. pop-up base "from Okinawa" starting from Naha Airport
Artists and popular stores open stalls in the event space permanently set up in the airport, which changes on a weekly basis. This is a spot where you can encounter "Okinawa Now" at the beginning or end of your trip.
Promote small and medium-sized businesses and creators in the prefecture throughout Japan and overseas
We offer products that can only be found here, such as handcrafted warmth-inspiring tableware and sundries, carefully selected food products, and Okinawan fashion. We support sales channels through a fusion of permanent exhibition + event + online.
3. multilingual support to meet inbound demand
In-store displays and staff support are available in Japanese, English, and Chinese (traditional). This is also a place where test marketing is possible, especially for tourists from Taiwan and other Asian countries.
